Maybe you have a router or firewall blocking your port 1352 which is the one that Notes uses.

It could also be that you are connecting to a Domino server which has a different IP address. Do you get to connect to the VPN at least? Can you ping and reach any other computers in the network (Work)?

I think it's more network related than Notes related.
